Dangerous God c Keith Binns c1997
Dangerous God no guarantees when we serve you.
No knowing what you’ll ask or what you’ll do.
Dangerous God no guarantees when we serve you.
Mary was a poor girl and when the baby came
She’d been forced out on a journey on stable straw was lain
And when he grew she had to watch the apple of her eye
Be whipped and scorned and spat upon nailed up and left to die.
Paul had wealth and status, he was a Pharisee of might,
Until the day God said “You’re mine!” and took away his sight.
He laboured in the kingdom, an apostle of renown,
Beaten, tired and hungry, swimming when his ship went down.
Now some say come to Jesus and we will guarantee
Your problems will all disappear as quick as one, two, three.
It wasn’t ’true for Mary, it wasn’t true for Paul,
It wasn’t true for Jesus and it’s not true at all.

If God Had Meant Us To Think
Keith Binns c1995
If God had meant us to think he would have given us a brain
Something between our ears so they didn’t let in the rain
Something inside our scone, so when you hit it it didn’t go Bong!
If God had meant us to think he would have given us a brain.
‘Cos isn’t it a drag when you hit a snag and come to a grinding halt
If there was more than space there behind your face you could find out what was at fault.
If God had meant us to think he would have given us a brain
Something between our ears so they didn’t let in the rain
Something inside our scone, so when you hit it it didn’t go Bong!
If God had meant us to think he would have given us a brain.
Philosophy, theology and all of the isms, history’s a mystery to me
But because I’ve got no brain life is just a game because I’ve no responsibility.
If God had meant us to think he would have given us a brain
Something between our ears so they didn’t let in the rain
Something inside our scone, so when you hit it it didn’t go Bong!
If God had meant us to think he would have given us a brain.

Well, well, well, who's that a callin'?
Well, well, well, hold my hand.
Well, well well, daylight is dawning
Spirit is a moving all over this land.
1. Some churches think that they own God
That the Spirit only works where they've trod
But that's just wrong 'cos the Spirit is free
Blows where she wills through society
Well, well, well, who's that a callin'?
Well, well, well, when we give to the poor
Well, well, well, when we know greed’s appalling
Spirit helps us to do good more.
2. "Come to us" some churches say
"You'll see God work in a special way"
Spirit just laughs and says "Watch me!"
Helps people care for the refugee.
Well, well, well, who's that a callin'?
Well, well, well, Close Nauru!
Well, well, well, those camps are appalling
Spirit knows just what we should do.
3. The Spirit has left many a church
When what God can do for them is their only search
'Cos caring for others is the Spirit's dream
Justice and kindness her only theme
Well, well, well, who's that a callin'?
Well, well, well, go for broke
Well, well, well, though some find it appalling
The Spirit of God is woke, woke, woke.
4. When we work for justice and help the poor
The Spirit is camped outside our door
Blowing hard, helping what we do
So we don't give up until we're through
Well, well, well, who's that a callin'?
Well, well, well, hold each others' hand
Well, well, well, when we fight the appalling
Spirit is a'moving all over this land.
